Enhanced compact models for the connected subgraph problem and for the shortest path problem in digraphs with negative cycles

چکیده
We investigate the minimum-weight connected subgraph problem. The importance of this problem stems from the fact that it constitutes the backbone of many network design problems having applications in several areas including telecommunication, energy, and distribution planning. We show that this problem is NP-hard, an we propose a new polynomial-size nonlinear mixed-integer programming model. We apply the Reformulation-Linearization Technique (RLT) to linearize the proposed model while keeping a polynomial number of variables and constraints. Furthermore, we show how similar modelling techniques enable an enhanced polynomial size formulation to be derived for the shortest elementary path. This latter problem is known to be intractable and has many applications (in particular, within the context of column generation). We report the results of extensive computational experiments on graphs with up to 1000 nodes. These results attest to the efficacy of the proposed compact formulations. In particular, we show that the proposed formulations consistently outperform compact formulations from the literature.

Two optimal algorithms for finding bi-directional shortest path design problem in a block layout
In this paper, Shortest Path Design Problem (SPDP) in which the path is incident to all cells is considered. The bi-directional path is one of the known types of configuration of networks for Automated Guided Vehi-cles (AGV).To solve this problem, two algorithms are developed. For each algorithm an Integer Linear Pro-gramming (ILP) is determined. The objective functions of both algorithms are t...
متن کاملStrongly connected spanning subgraphs with the minimum number of arcs in semicomplete multipartite digraphs
We consider the problem (MSSS) of finding the minimum number of arcs in a spanning strongly connected subgraph of a strongly connected digraph. This problem is NP-hard for general digraphs since it generalizes the hamiltonian cycle problem. We characterize the number of arcs in a minimum spanning strong subgraph for digraphs which are either extended semicomplete or semicomplete bipartite. Our ...
متن کاملStrongly Connected Spanning Subdigraphs with the Minimum Number of Arcs in Quasi-transitive Digraphs
We consider the problem (MSSS) of nding a strongly connected spanning subgraph with the minimum number of arcs in a strongly connected digraph. This problem is NP-hard for general digraphs since it generalizes the hamil-tonian cycle problem. We show that the problem is polynomially solvable for quasi-transitive digraphs. We describe the minimum number of arcs in such a spanning subgraph of a qu...
متن کاملA New Algorithm for the Discrete Shortest Path Problem in a Network Based on Ideal Fuzzy Sets
A shortest path problem is a practical issue in networks for real-world situations. This paper addresses the fuzzy shortest path (FSP) problem to obtain the best fuzzy path among fuzzy paths sets. For this purpose, a new efficient algorithm is introduced based on a new definition of ideal fuzzy sets (IFSs) in order to determine the fuzzy shortest path. Moreover, this algorithm is developed for ...
متن کاملCockpit Crew Pairing Problem in Airline Scheduling: Shortest Path with Resources Constraints Approach
Increasing competition in the air transport market has intensified active airlines’ efforts to keep their market share by attaching due importance to cost management aimed at reduced final prices. Crew costs are second only to fuel costs on the cost list of airline companies. So, this paper attempts to investigate the cockpit crew pairing problem. The set partitioning problem has been used for ...
